Nipperbou - Gun Rights and American Freedom
A Brief Discussion On Second Ammendment Rights

The State of California has added to their collection of oppressive anti-gun laws when Governor Arnold signed into law AB-l471 on October 13, 2007 mandating that all weapons be engraved (micro-stamped) with an identification number. This law comes at the heels of recent legislation prohibiting Californians from possessing the .50 caliber BMG cartridge (and any gun that chambers it.)

Both of these recent laws demonstrate a willingness to disregard those liberties that we have always held so dear. This is not a case of giving up a small freedom in exchange for added security. Nor is this a case of protecting the community from criminal activity. No. This is the blatant disregard of both traditional American freedoms and an outright assault on our second amendment rights. Gun Rights and Freedom

Gun control is necessary in our country, but so is the protection of our constitutional rights. This is an excellent platform from which to promote this agenda because it plays on our fears. Who would not want to help reduce crime and violence? The crime rates in this country are appalling. There is however, no legitimate reason to believe that propaganda.

Let us examine now the problem of crime and violence. That is the problem, crime, not guns. The crime rate in our country is staggering when compared to other industrialized western nations. This is a social problem that needs to be recognized as such. Perhaps the solution to reducing crime is increased drug awareness and treatment programs or stiffer penalties for offenders.

Enacting stricter restrictions on gun ownership is not a solution. Current gun laws strongly regulate the distribution of firearms from factory to purchaser. The Brady Law which requires propective
